Life of Wily: A History
by James Newberry

If you can believe it, there was a time not long ago when spritecomics didn't exist. Then along came Bob and George, and the internet was changed forever.

Life of Wily was created on January 19th, 2001, and became an immediate hit thanks both to the popularity of Bob and George and to a much-loved (now defunked) comic ranking engine called Big Panda... And, of course, also due to its unusual and naive take on Megaman, Protoman, and the rest of the Capcom bunch. I hadn't really played Megaman games growing up. And while David Anez focused on following the plot of those games, Life of Wily began wandering the internet trying to find its own unique footing. Enter Megatug. The most unlikely of robot superheroes. Many folks have asked over the years where the name Megatug comes from. My answer is always the same: I tried to think of the dumbest name for a robot ever.

As different from its ever-increasing peers as it became, it's difficult to say whether Life of Wily was successful or not. I know a lot of people came to love it, as I came to love finding things for this cast of characters to do. And I continually maintained that I would keep doing the strip until it stopped being enjoyable.

That point came in May of 2003. After 2.5 years and 376 strips, it seemed like the time was right to lay the adventures of Dr. Light, Bass, Roll, Megatug and the crew to rest... with a convenient "to be continued"... just in case.

And now here they are, entombed in the infinite glass case of the internet, for your enjoyment. I encourage you to read them all, and then make a trip over to my new comic: Perfect Stars. It's like nothing you've ever seen before. I guarantee it.
